Welcome to the Early Childhood Discussion Group hosted by the Old Colony Chapter of BAEYC. Our conversations begin here when you post your introduction. In your reply briefly describe your background, current position, how long you've been in the field, why you are working with children and families and what you wish to gain from participating in the book discussion group.
My name is Amy Stigas and I am in my 24th Year as a Teacher at The Massasoit Children's Center lab school, Massasoit College Brockton. I have been an early childhood professional for the past 26 years where I have experienced a multitude of changes in our field. It is important to keep up with the current trends, developments and findings that enable early childhood professionals to better serve our program's families. This is my third BAEYC book discussion group and I'm looking forward to it. I'm always excited to learn new techniques, through conversation and discussion to bring back to my classroom as well as share with my colleagues. Massasoit College is once again hosting the BAEYC early childhood conference March 16th where Pamela Brillante will be our Keynote speaker.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Amy,
DeleteIt is wonderful to have you in our group. You likely have many experiences you can share with us. What other current trends do you follow in Early Childhood? Looking forward to meeting you soon!
Sue
Hi my name is Theresa Gormley. I am a veteran teacher probably nearing the sunset of my Early Childhood career. I have owned a private preschool for 40 years. Still having fun most days! I am still able to start each day fresh and give each child a fresh start every day. I don’ t know the feeling of “I don’t want to go to work today” I find my work meaningful and important. My formal training includes undergrad at U Mass Boston during the turmultuos 70s and graduate work at Wheelock in Parenting Education and support. My daily teacher’s now are my students and their families.
ReplyDeleteI balance my life by teaching scuba diving and recreational horseback riding for special needs people. What keeps me coming back each year is the mental refresh I get sharing the experiences ,challenges , and successes of my professional peers. It is always a fitting time of year that the value of our sharing is enhanced as we emerge from winters grip and look forward with hope to the spring.
Greetings Theresa,
DeleteIt is wonderful to have you in the group. Like Amy you have many valuable experiences you can share. Where is your school located? I support your goal of balance. I'm still working on being more balanced. I've always wanted to scuba dive. Where is your favorite place to dive? See you soon.
Sue
Hi sue,
DeleteMy preschool is in Kingston. I teach scuba diving from Divers Market in Plymouth. When asked where my favorite place to dive was, I always answered “I’m still looking”. Then I found Bonaire. I tell my family if I ever run away from home, that’s where I’ll be!
I have been working as an early childhood educator for over 25 years. This is my first year at Bridgewater State University. Before coming to Bridgewater, I taught early childhood courses for two years at Sam Houston State University located in Huntsville, Texas. Most of my early childhood career has been spent in the Washington, D. C. metro area as a Head Start teacher, instructional coach, and education manager. I primarily worked in high-needs, urban communities.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Kevin, Hope you enjoy this new experience. I look forward to learning more about how you design programs to include all learners. Of your past positions, which one did you enjoy the most and why?
DeleteHi everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Joanne Hogan and I am in my second year at Dean College in the roles of Director of the Children's Center, Assistant Professor of Early Childhood Education, and Program Coordinator. I have been in the field of early childhood education since 1989 and have worked at three other campus-based programs, all of which were NAEYC accredited, in the roles of teacher, lead teacher, and director.
I have 2 daughters who are in their early 20s, but when they were young, I ran a childcare business of my own. I am also a member of the BAEYC Old Colony Steering Committee and Tri-County Regional Vocational School's Advisory Committee.
In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and kayaking with family and I'm looking forward to a trip to Acadia National Park in June. It's exciting to be able to connect and share ideas with such passionate members of the early childhood community.
Hi Joanne,
DeleteSo glad to be learning with you again. You have a wealth of experience to share. Where do you like to hike? Kayak? I enjoy both. One of my favorite places for winter hikes/walks is the Cape Cod Canal. I love watching the ducks and twice I've seen seals.
Warm wishes ~ Sue
Hi Sue,
DeleteWe head to the Lakes Region of NH in the summer for kayaking. Locally, I enjoy hikes in the Blue Hills and taking long walks at Borderland State Park. It's been a busy week, but I'll be posting more this weekend.
Stay warm,
Joanne
For some reason I couldn't see Jeeva's Introduction. Here it is
ReplyDeleteJeeva Sebastian has left a new comment on your post "Introduce Yourself":
Hello everyone! My name is Jeeva and I am a Lead preschool teacher at Wee Little Munchkins, Lakeville. I’ve been in this field for 22 years now. I did Most of my teaching here in the U.S and I absolutely love it. I believe teaching younger children is a huge responsibility that involves a lot of sacrifice, hard work and patience. The sooner we get to fulfill their needs and teach them life skills the better it is ,for them to grow up to be good human beings. So this is a job purely driven by passion . This is the reason why I chose to work with little ones and their families. I also believe that I love learning from people’s experiences. One of the things I enjoy about blogging is how we get to share valuable information that can sometimes miraculously open THAT door that we were waiting to open. Like for instance, last night Theresa gave stacey and I some valuable information that will definitely help a family in our school . I believe this book review will help me learn more about the special education laws that apply to our program thereby helping me serve families effectively.
Hi Sue for some reason I couldn’t see my introduction either ( after I published it) until now.
