Questions for the author

Pamela Brillante is the keynote speaker at the BAEYC Old Colony Spring Conference on March 16th.   Imagine sitting with her during breakfast or lunch, what question would you ask her and why?

  1. I think my first question would be what drew you to this field?
And my second question would be where do you see the field of early childhood going? Do you feel most will be acquired by the department of education? or do you see it being its own entity?
and my last question would be what advice would you give a incoming teacher? and what advice would you give a seasoned teacher?

  2. Thanks so much for posting questions. Susan Driscoll shared the blog link with Dr. Brillante and hopefully she will see our questions before the conference next Friday. I wonder about your questions regarding early childhood education. MA is unique in that we have 2 state level departments that overlap with the regulations regarding the care and education of children from birth to kindergarten. I hope Dr. Brillante addresses your questions.

  3. Dr. Brillante has worked for the New Jersey Department of Education. Her experience helping public schools develop high quality early childhood programs must make her very aware of the disparity between public school systems and private preschool and day care programs. If I could ask her a question, it would be “What are the best ways to engage a variety of early education stake holders to come together to express how high quality early childhood programs lead to the future academic success of children?” “How can we, as a country, develop national guidelines to financially support early childhood educators?” “Have you personally advocated for the development of national guidelines for quality early childhood programs?” “Where do we begin?”

  4. Joanne, I like how your questions relate to public policy and hope they are answered on Friday.

  5. My comment to Dr. Brillante would be more in line with a thank you than a question. As an Early Childhood Teacher and Director for the last 40 years, I feel like we still fight to be respected as professionals and the work we do valued and important. I thank you that in your all inclusive approach Early Childhood Educators are not made to feel “less than” or that the job we do every day does not have the utmost importance. It saddens me that this is still an issue. Any gathering of professionals in our field will show you the high level of training, experience and compassion that we have. I feel we are not quite their in the eyes of our society. They don’t see what we see. So we continue to make a difference one child and one family at a time.
